After studying Modern History, Law and Political Science in Heidelberg, Berlin and Seattle, he received his PhD in Political Science from the Freie Universität Berlin. His research interests comprise comparative constitutionalism and comparative judicial studies, sociology of law / socio-legal studies and post-communist studies with a focus on East Central Europe.
